Classic

Really fun to get to know young Walt and Bear. Neither have changed a bit in 50 years. Thanks for sharing these books make my day.

Great story

I love this series, read all of the books, this new edition may be my favorite. I like the blend of past and present.

Another Good One

Great story, although just a touch unbelievable that Walt and Henry had the ability to outfight and outwit career criminals at the age of 22. I liked the dive into the history of their relationship and the country. One reviewer complained about politics, but history of internment camps is what it is. And the history added great context to the story. As always, the characters and writing are delightful.

Fascinating and Fun to read!

I was completely drawn into this cleverly-crafted trip back and forth through time that lets us get to know the sheriff more deeply. Plus it’s a gift of another incomparable reading from George Guidall.

Trying to do the right thing and being honest with people. For the people always.

I loved the suspense of how the past and the present was going on back and forth and I was held captive, couldn't get enough of it all.

Always a GREAT LISTEN!!!!

I pre purchased two books that I’ve been waiting on for months, this morning I had to make a hard choice and went with this one. I am so glad I did!!

This book goes back to Longmire’s days in college. It’s 1964 and he’s completed four years and is going off to Vietnam. But first he rescues three men from drowning. The fishing boat the men were on is loaded with millions of dollars worth of heroin. The police only give Longmire a cursory glance before deciding that he and Henry Standingbear are not involved. They also warn him that the people who owned the drugs might blame them for the loss.
Now on his way to the army base his truck breaks down. He and Henry Standingbear are stranded in a place called Bone Valley. This was the location of a Japanese internment camp. They’re told that there are no children there but Walt saw a child running around wearing the mask of a devil. Only one person acknowledges her existence and he tells him to stay away from the girl, she brings trouble to those who see her.
In the present day Longmire is under scrutiny for shooting and killing someone. The number of people he’s killed and his weapon of choice is being questioned because it’s not the accepted police issue.
You know there’s a collision of events coming but how remains a mystery for some time. And this town is so strange. Again you know something has happened here but that too will keep it’s secrets until…

George Guidall does a phenomenal job narrating as always.

This book has my VERY HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!!!!

Good but not great.

Definitely not my favorite Craig Johnson novel. Just not the normal storyline. Not enough Vic for one. Story jumps back and forth between 1960’s and present day. George Guidall, like always is superb. I will read instead of listen if he is not the narrator for Walt.

The usual Craig Johnson - terrific

In typical Craig Johnson fashion, yet another Walt Longmire story is told. This time alternating between current events in the sheriff's life, and a tale from his youth. This tale shows the character, strength and courage of Walt and Henry was well established before they enlisted in their respective branches of the service.
Excellent story, narration and as always, a lot of fun!
